NYC Itinerary Builder

Pick how long you have and what you're into. You'll get a day-by-day New York plan built from neighbourhoods you can actually walk, linked straight into our guides — and a URL to send to whoever you're travelling with.

To plan a New York trip, give each day one neighbourhood: Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, Midtown, Central Park and the Met, the High Line and the Village, and Brooklyn. Four to five days covers the classics. Build your own version below, with kosher and Shabbat options — it's free and nothing is stored.

How to use this

The builder gives you the shape of a trip — one walkable neighbourhood per day, in an order that front-loads the things first-timers regret missing. It names the sights but not the restaurants, because that is what the guides are for, and they are refreshed as places open and close.

Generate the plan, then follow the links on each day into the relevant guide and pick the specific places you want.

Kosher and Shabbat

With I eat kosher ticked, every meal links to our kosher guides, each of which names the certifying agency for every restaurant. With I keep Shabbat ticked, Friday finishes early and Saturday becomes a day on foot with no tickets, ferries or purchases — and the plan reminds you that kosher restaurants close, so meals need arranging in advance.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do I need in New York City?

Four to five days covers the essentials without rushing: Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, Midtown, Central Park and a big museum, a day downtown on the High Line and in the Village, and a day in Brooklyn. A week lets you add the Bronx Zoo, Queens and a slower pace. With two or three days, stay in Manhattan and pick the classics.

What is the best borough to stay in?

For a first trip, Manhattan — Midtown for convenience, the Upper West Side for a calmer neighbourhood with the city's best concentration of kosher restaurants and shuls, or downtown for nightlife. Brooklyn (Williamsburg, Dumbo, Downtown Brooklyn) is a good second choice and often cheaper. Long Island City in Queens is one subway stop from Midtown.

Does this itinerary work if I keep Shabbat?

Yes. Tick 'I keep Shabbat' and Saturday becomes a walking day with no tickets, rides or purchases, and Friday gets a reminder to finish sightseeing and shopping early. Kosher restaurants close for Shabbat, so the plan reminds you to arrange meals ahead. Choose a hotel within walking distance of a shul — our Shabbat-friendly hotels guide helps once it is live.

How should I get around?

The subway, almost always. Tap a contactless bank card or phone at the turnstile — there is no need to buy a MetroCard. Fares cap after a set number of rides in seven days, so heavy users pay no more than a weekly pass. Taxis and app cars are best late at night or with luggage; check our taxi fare estimator before you ride.

Is my itinerary saved anywhere?

No. The builder runs entirely in your browser and stores nothing. Your choices are encoded in the URL, so copying the link is how you save or share a plan.
